Click here for important information in deciding what machine to install CISM on.
Note: If your QuickBooks is hosted, you should get the hosting company involved in this process ASAP. Not all hosting companies allow third party software products (like CISM) to be installed on their servers. If this is the case with your hosting company, you will have to switch hosting companies (we can provide alternatives for you).
Before you begin, if you haven't done so already, go here and click the button to Start Free Trial For QuickBooks Desktop. These instructions will be emailed to you and will include information you will need during the installation process.
Here are the steps to install CISM:
1) Run QuickBooks and log in as the Admin.
2) If QuickBooks is in multi-user mode, put QuickBooks into single-user mode.
3) Click here to download the CISM setup program. You may get security warning(s) like those shown at the bottom of this document. Go ahead and choose to download the program.
4) Once the setup program is downloaded, double-click it to run the setup. If given a security warning(s), go ahead and choose to run setup and install the program.
5) CISM will ask you for your CISM Company ID. This is provided in the email sent to you when you signed up for your free trial.
6) CISM will ask you for the Company Password. This is provided in the email sent to you when you signed up for your free trial. Enter your password (the password is case sensitive) and click OK.
7) CISM will ask you for the path for the company file. To get this, from the QuickBooks Home screen, hit F2 to open the Product Info screen, then highlight and copy the entire File Info Location, then -- very important -- click OK to close the Product Info screen. Do NOT close QuickBooks.
8) After copying the file location, go back to the CISM screen and paste the file location, then click OK.
9) If QuickBooks is open (which it should be), go to QuickBooks to give CISM access to your QuickBooks company file. Choose "Yes, always; allow access even if QuickBooks is not running", and choose to login as the Admin. Then click Continue, and then Done. (If QuickBooks is not open, CISM will prompt you to open it and log in as Admin). After giving CISM permission to access your QuickBooks company file, you can set QuickBooks back to multi-user mode.
CISM will then do a full-sync of your QuickBooks data, sending the data to the CISM cloud; this process will take anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple hours, depending on how much data is in your QuickBooks system.
When the full sync has finished, CISM will automatically minimize to the system tray, and ongoing syncs will automatically happen every 5 minutes for incoming sales orders and 15 minutes for outgoing changes from QuickBooks as long as this machine is powered on and the user who was logged in when installing this program is logged on.
That's it... you're done.
When downloading the CISM setup file, you may see alerts like these:
